MS Horizon sailing for scrap

Media reporting today, that MS Horizon has left Greek waters and is hedaing for Turkey / Aliaga for scrap.

The 1990 built vessel was sitting in limbo for the last two years with a very uncertain future. Now is the final destination revealed and MS Horizon is heading for eternity.

Made in Germany by the Meyer Werft / Papenburg the ship was the first newbuild for Celebrity Cruises. As Island Star it served Island Cruises since 2005. Three years later MS Horizon was transfered again: now to Pullmantur Cruceros – its final operator. The ship served its operator for 12 years and came to a sudden stop with the COVID-19 pandemic.

When Pullmantur went into receivership, the ship was returned to the Royal Caribbean Group together with its sisterships Sovereign and Monarch – those were beached and scrapped soon after. Also in Aliaga / Turkey. Farewell MS Horizon.
